Thanks to Encik Azman yang meletop, my laptop telah dibaikpulih.

If not matilah..

My laptop is like my nyawa-- macam cerita film noir Melayu -- Yang perempuan nyawa dia kat ikan tu (cerita bidasari ker?)... kalau ikan mati dia mati.

Great Show by the Talented Old Boys of MCKK

In my previous post, I wrote about the great show performed by the Malay College Old Boys at the Royal MCOBA Dinner at KL Convention Centre on Nov 25, 2005.

I just received the pictures from Zaim. Thanks to the Bargreaves Ballerz, we enjoyed the show.

Now for your viewing pleasure...

Selamat Pengantin Baru Aidil & Elly

It was fun being the emcee at Aidil and Elly's wedding.

Aidil ni my junior at Malay College and it sure was great to see budak-budak kolek semua datang pakai samping MCKK -- tapi Morky Moqq pakai samping budak Clifford lah pulak -- tak kesah, janji meletop.

Anyway, I would like to put on record that it was a pleasure helping Datuk Aziz and Datin Siti Julianah to organize the wedding reception.

Aidil's uncle, Dato' Mat Abas (old boy MCKK jugak) was such a great speaker and speech writer, and it was a pleasure knowing him.

And yang tak larat nyer, lepas tu, semua tanya "Ha yang Suhaimi ni bila pulak?"

Tak larat nyer....

Selamat Hari Natal

The MCOBA Royal Dinner was a blast.

Great performance by the 'bangsawanians'.

Really enjoyed myself in the company of great friends -- Morky Moqq, Anand, George and the rest. Managed to catch up with Adlan, Bulet, budak-budak 75-79 (yes, we are 43 yo oredi...tapi masih kelihatan 29). Will post the pictures here once I dapat from Morky Moqq.

The Christmas tree at our office dah naik dah -- thanks to Shazwan, designer Christmas tree yang unggul di SSO. He has other skills too... nak tahu? hmmmm...

GUILTY

Yes, guilty.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Over the past week, I have been stopped at KLCC, Mid Valley and BSC by strangers and friends for not 'uploading' fresh content on this blog! Tak sangkalah ramai jugak yang baca -- coz yang post comments tak lah ramai -- i don't have a stats counter kat sini yet.

The truth is, I have been extremely busy -- teramatlah banyak kerja macam nak rak.

Should have a bit more time next week.

Lots of stories in my head but no time to hit the laptop. I bawaklah laptop ke hulu ke hilir kununnyer nak update blog .. tapi tak jugak sempat. I think I need an assistant to jot all the things down agaknyer. Macam itu Dame Barbara Cartland sambil memegang poodle seekor dua.

MAKANAN = 1, SUHAIMI = 0

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com

Oh tidak. Today I lost -- hari ini aku tewas.

After 4 days of winning (read: calories yang masuk amat sikit), today I makan teramatlah banyak.

What to do...when you have great company, terus berselera.

Had a good makan and sembang-sembang time with Dina Zaman and Elida and a great re-union with Datin Rose Ismail of Salt Media (dulu the great soul at NST) and also Chee Sek Thim, of Reka Art Space at Delicious -- Bangsar Village. Food was Ummmpphh to the max!!

Esok, hopefully menanglah.

This week so far: SUHAIMI=4, MAKANAN=1

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com

Lets just call this a 'what if' game.

The situation:

You have a business with lots of potential which promises many 'digits' growth. Suddenly a giant multinational says "we want you to work with us for 3 years because you are developing something that we want but you need to be one of us". We might even buy you!!

The Q:
What would you say to the giant?

Dah kena mandrem ker?

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com

We have a maid who comes once a week to clean the office.

We are not satisfied with her 'performance'. Kalau tak supervise, sink tak cuci, kalau tak supervise tak vacuum bebetul. Meja tak lap.

Tapi nak komplen kat dia, 'tak terbuka mulut'.

Adakah ini kes mandrem?

Another case -- before you go to a hairstylist, you would have an idea of how you want your hair to look like and tak nak kasi dia potong sana potong sini.

But sampai jer kat salon, semua stylist buat, kita OK jer.

Balik rumah, baru menyumpah.

Adakah ini kes mandrem jugak?

Jawab semua...ha...jawab

ESSENTIALS: DESIGN – INNOVATE, DIFFERENTIATE AND COMMUNICATE

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com

At the moment, I am reading ESSENTIALS: DESIGN – INNOVATE, DIFFERENTIATE AND COMMUNICATE by Tom Peters.

It’s compact, 159 pages and size dia setengah of a novel, 4 inches x 7.5 inches – senang nak bawa masa makan roti canai kat kedai mamak. Kat MPH harga dia RM54.

I would recommend you to read it because it will not only help us package the products and services that we sell but also how we sell ourselves.

It is about how to create a whole new experience for your customers and turn what you provide into an experience.

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com

There is also a discussion about why design is the number one determinant of whether a product or service stands out – or doesn’t.

You also get to learn how we are designers at heart and understand why branding is about nothing more, or less, than heart – what is your organisation, why it is here and how it is unique.

It is a fun colourful book with lots of nice pictures. I highly recommend it for people in communications and people of all backgrounds and specializations too.

Raya -- Too Much of a Good Thing?

Thank God -- I did not indulge in makan lemang and rendang bagai nak rak on the first day of Raya. Even my favourite kuih bangkit, bahulu -- sentuh sikit jer.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Over the years, the meaning of Raya has changed a lot.

We can live without lots of the unnecessary stuff that we see today -- kids thinking its their rights to get duit raya, must have caterer, canopies to entertain people at your house etc -- sederhana jer tak boleh ker?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And also the need to flaunt your wealth. Also the wrong approach to 'wealth distribution' -- bagi duit kat orang yang dah kaya and not the fakir miskin.

If you watch TV -- Raya programming is about makan banyak-banyak sampai jadi bodoh, must have a new car to balik kampong (walaupun hutang keliling pinggang) and charge to your credit cards to get all the baju cantik-cantik and have artistes nyanyi lagu raya dan joget-joget -- year in year out -- dah tak leh pikir dah ker?

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com

We must be responsible enough to weave in the true meaning of Ramadan/Syawal in media content in an entertaining way -- not using the 'in your face' treatmentlah -- but subtle.

That's why I love the Petronas commercial about the guy taking care of the old sick father who later married the girl who bought his air tebu.

Selamat Hari Raya yang Sejati
