Raya at AKJ’s House

It was packed. And it was an ‘interesting’ gathering of reporters, reporters yang ‘pencen’, reporters yang migrated to other greater things , pak menteri and powerbrokers. A fun combo of people -- they converged to Tropicana to attend Datuk A Kadir Jasin’s Raya Open House. That’s the spirit.

Datuk A Kadir Jasin

I went there with Cekem and Mariam.

For Cekem and me, it was to bersalaman with our ‘guru’ in journalism. He taught is a great deal, directly and indirectly.

To Datuk AKJ, thanks for ilmu yang diberi.

We now follow your blog religiously.

KL Fashion Week

Me and Tank woke up very early for a Saturday to support Bon Zainal at the opening of The Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2006 at Berjaya Times Square.

We had breakfast at Discover Café in Desa Pandan, a fast one, and off we went to join Shawati & Hubby and Nina at 10:00 am to cheer Bon. When we arrived, Bon was all excited to showcase his latest jackets/coats/suits and for the first time, formal/casual wear for women.

Tank waiting for makanan.

Bon was there since 6 am and as usual couldn’t eat or drink until after the show. I know exactly that feeling.

Bon was the second designer to showcase his creations after Amir Luqman.

Daniel Chong and Faizal Abdullah also paraded their designs in the morning.

Bon all set to ‘sashay-shauntay” with his models.

Shawati came to give moral support – best kengkawan macam ni.

Later today, we’ll be heading to Husni’s Gemarimba Art Gallery Open House and Art Exhibition.

Minor Cosmetic Surgery / Enhancement / Injections?

Have you ‘studied’ Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Khir Toyo’s face lately?

I did. Why? Because I think he must have gone through some kind of cosmetic treatment.

He is a lot more fair now. Less wrinkles when he frowns and strangely urbane.

Tell me what you think…

The Boxer Rebellion

Today Rizal and Ashwad disappeared during lunch – they confessed later that they went shopping for boxer shorts. Apa?

And lately I noticed guys like to londehkan sikit jeans supaya nampak boxer shorts sikit. Trend kot.

Anyway, today Rizal also pakai an interesting T-shirt. If you can’t see it clearly, tertera di atas T-Shirt adalah:

Watt’s Electrician: Let us remove your shorts.

A long time ago, masa memuda dedolu, I had a T-Shirt with the following written on the back:

“I am trying to look sexy. How am I doing?”

And I also had a cap (topi) yang awning dia panjang sikit daripada biasa, and written on it:

‘Mine is longer than yours”

Semua ni elok mengubat hati yang lara. Kalau tidak rambut banyak uban beb. A recent ‘betrayal’ episode terus buat rambut I jadi putih. I remember reading somewhere Shah Jahan’s hair turned white within a week after the death of Mumtaz Mahal.

Shah Jahan, the Moghul ruler, ordered his people to build Taj Mahal to remember Mumtaz Mahal.

I feel really honoured indeed. Menitis airmata…

First, a representative of TV station A asked me if I would like to be a content advisor. Kecil tapak tangan…

Later, a call from TV station B asking me if I want to host a regular segment on ‘branding’ and ‘positioning’. Sekali lagi kecil tapak tangan…

I love TV works really, and I said yes…. After all, tempat jatuh lagi dikenang…

And Zalina Azman walks in…

It was a fun unplanned reunion.

I was at Datuk Sam’s Pinang Masak Restaurant at Bukit Tunku having a discussion with Zaihani and Najib of ASTRO when Zalina (yes, Zalina ex-TV3) walked in and we all screamed at the same time… woiiii….

Zalina now is a full time homemaker taking care of her 6-months old anak.

It sure was fun, and we talked about Kelvin Ong (yes, headliner, you can tell Kelvin), Haliza Hashim and the good times at TV3.

-----

And a great smile will do wonders. I decided to smile more today. So far it worked.

Memory Bank

Why do I find it hard, once in a while, to recall names now?

It happened recently. I know who they are, I know what they do, their background etc. But when I was about to introduce them, I completely forgot their names.

This is not the first time…

It depends on the texture of your head.

Many years ago, when I was a student in the US, there was a beautiful Malaysian girl, who stayed on the same floor of my apartment building – ‘Ondine’ in Portland, Oregon.

She was very much in love with the phone. Yes, her monthly phone bill never failed to exceed her monthly allowance.

But I admired her for trying to find ways of using the phone less.

One way was by putting the phone on top of the bookshelf so that it would be hard for her to reach it.

So when the phone rang, she would pull the cord and the phone would fall from above the shelf. Many times the phone fell on her head and was out of order for sometime.

One day, she called the phone company and asked the operator…

The Operator: Good morning, how can I assist you?

The Girl: Yes, I have a question. How many times must
the phone fall on your head before it goes out of order?

The Operator: Well, that’s a good question. It depends on the texture of your head.

The Girl: Thanks.

Surat terbuka kepada penganiaya…

I’m very happy today because doa orang teraniaya selalunya dimakbulkan tuhan.

Pintu rezeki orang teraniaya dibuka seluas-luasnya… Alhamdulillah .. almost instantly we now have more potential biz, yes, more than we can handle… And they are from people with integrity.

Sesungguhnya doa orang yang teraniaya selalunya termakbul…
Mungkin doa orang teraniaya cuma mahu terus meminta dilindungi.

Su, listen to the lyrics…

Oh, yes, it's so true...yes... tak tercapai akal mu...

Ku congak apa yang di depan ku
Sebelum atur langkah
Ku tahu kan ke mana

Tak mudah aku kan diperdaya
Dengan pujuk dan rayu
Hasut ku ke dunia mu

Sesungguhnya ku
Lebih dari yang kau tahu
Baik buruknya sesuatu
Slalu difikirkan dulu

Biar berdentum langit guntur
Yang menghempap diri ku
Tidak gentarkan tatasusila ku
Yang menggambarkan siapa diri ku

Biarlah bergoncang
Bumi di telapak kaki ku ini
Namun takkan ku rubah pendirian
Yang membuat aku menjadi aku

Mungkin sukar tuk difahami
Kerna tak tercapai akal mu

Jangan ku kau sasarkan
Sebagai mangsa
yang kau sangka mudah di rebah
Santun ku bukannya ku lemah

Mudahnya merosakkan dari membina
Mencemarkan dari memulia
Tak menghirau dari mengendah

Sesungguhnya ku
Lebih dari yang kau tahu
Baik buruknya sesuatu
Slalu difikirkan dulu

Mungkin sukar tuk difahami
Kerna tak tercapai akal mu

Biar berdentum langit guntur
Yang menghempap diri ku
Tidak gentarkan tatasusila ku
Yang menggambarkan siapa diri ku

Biar bergoncang
Bumi di telapak kaki ku ini
Namun takkan ku rubah pendirian
Yang membuat aku menjadi aku

Mungkin sukar tuk difahami
Kerna tak tercapai akal mu

Mungkin sukar untuk difahami
Kerana tak tercapai di akal mu

Keluhan hari ini…

Sometimes we will never get to know the whole truth.
Or perhaps God is saving us from more hurt… for if we were to know the ‘remaining truth’, we will just feel numb and will remain silent forever.

But for sure
We are wiser
We know who to trust
We know who to lust, and
We know who to blast.

And Dad, thank you for the prayer…
